Between the year you were born and the year you leave this earth, there is a dash — a simple line between two dates. It may look small, but it holds everything: the love you gave, the lives you touched, and the moments that defined you.
We often focus on accomplishments, possessions, and success, but in the end, none of that will matter as much as how we spent our time, how we treated others, and how we loved. The question is, how are you living your dash?
Making Your Dash Count
Prioritize relationships over possessions. It’s easy to get caught up in chasing success, wealth, and recognition, but at the end of the day, people won’t remember what you had — they’ll remember how you made them feel. Take time to nurture the relationships that matter most.
Choose kindness and compassion. A kind word, a helping hand, or a simple smile can make a world of difference. Being remembered as someone who lifted others up is one of life’s greatest achievements.
Let go of grudges and anger. Life is too short to hold onto bitterness. Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting, but it does mean freeing yourself from the weight of negativity. Let go of past hurts, cherish the present, and move forward with a heart full of grace.
Live with purpose and passion. Are you spending your time on things that truly matter to you? Your dash is yours to shape — make it meaningful. Whether it’s pursuing your dreams, helping others, or creating something lasting, be intentional about how you invest your time.
Be present in the moment. It’s easy to get lost in worries about the future or regrets about the past, but the dash is happening right now. Make every moment count. Slow down, appreciate the little things, and savor the time you have with the people around you.
Your Weekly Challenge: Take One Meaningful Step
This week, choose one small way to make your dash count. Call a loved one just to say, “I appreciate you.” Do something kind for someone with no expectation of return. Spend time on something that fills your heart with purpose. Reflect on how you want to be remembered and take one step toward that vision.
At the end of the week, ask yourself: Did I live my dash well today? If the answer isn’t what you hoped for, remember — tomorrow is a new opportunity to try again.
Quote of the Day: “It’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” — Abraham Lincoln
Final Thought
One day, your story will be told through the memories of those you leave behind. What will they say about how you spent your dash?
Every single day is a chance to write a story you’d be proud of. Live with love, purpose, and gratitude — and make your dash a legacy worth remembering.
How do you want to be remembered? Share your thoughts in the comments. I’d love to hear your reflections.
